In this over digitalized era, the value of printed editions is growing each day. Collectors from all over the world are always behind the latest weird science magazine, the coffee table limited edition book, or that uncensored fanzine they crave for after seeing their favorite IG niche micro celebrity is featured with their spread cheeks in it. But what always represent a challenge for photographers, editors and graphic artists is the shipping of such products, mainly because most times it’s more expensive to send a product than to make it.
This is why we thought about the DLC concept. For those not familiar with it, DLC’s stand for Downloadable Contents, and it refers to features in video games that are downloaded separately from the main game. DLC can include extra items, characters, levels, costumes, and more. Most big games nowadays have DLC, which can be free or cost money, depending on the game.
Game designers think of everyones experience when playing their games, so they make separate features to provide a much more customized experience for their gamers, providing also a boost on the cultural aspects of local and online communities through a variety of elements (such as storylines, weapons, upgrades, etc) that make the collective experience something worth (meme) posting about. We, as editors and graphic artists, work hand in hand with publishers and print shops to give material life to our artworks. But the shipping part of this process always comes as a pain in the ass, so we thought about a way to make this process easier and, at the same time, support local businesses that allow the material crafting of our dreams and ideas.
DGAF DLC’s are Digital Files designed by DGAF Partners, containing printable artworks such as Posters, Photographs, Fanzines, Magazines, Books, Soft prints for clothing and more. These PDF files have printing instructions attached so customers can buy the files and take them to their local Print Shop to materialize their purchase. This way, not only we’re making a more affordable product (DIY it’s always more affordable), but we are also:
- Supporting local Print Shops that have been impacted by the pandemic
- Encouraging people to get involved in the production process of their own purchases
- Reducing the carbon footprint of shipping these products
DGAF DLC’s are not limited to printable products. We also encourage Partners to Upload music, wallpapers, and anykind of contents they want people to keep as a portable digital file (as long as they are the authors of such content, of course).
